WASHINGTON — A little girl has unfortunately died after being hit by a car.
Just before 4 p.m., the Metropolitan Police Department received calls for a little girl who had been hit by a car in the parking lot of a BP gas station. First responders and police responded to the crash at Pennsylvania and Minnesota Avenue in Southeast.
Reports from the preliminary investigation shows, the driver was driving through the parking lot when 5-year-old Zyina Crump began running through the parking lot. Unfortunately, the driver didn't have enough time to react and hit the Zyina as she was running into the path of the car.
Zyina was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite life saving measures, she did not survive.
The driver did remain on the scene and is cooperating with police. Surveillance video shows what led up to the accident, but police say they are not releasing the videos yet.
There is no word on where Zyina's family was during the accident.
The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing.
