Man sentenced to 45 years in prison for killing someone at a bus stop

A D.C. man was sentenced to prison for his role in the murder of Christopher Washington in Southeast four years ago.

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in the murder of Christopher Washington in Southeast four years ago.

Terrell Poe was found guilty on three counts of first-degree murder while armed, possession of a gun during a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a gun on February 15.

According to evidence, on September 23, 2020, Washington was standing at a bus stop along Southern Avenue in Southeast, when Poe pulled up in a pickup truck. Poe got out of the truck and shot Washington to death with an assault rifle.

Surveillance cameras captured Poe in the parking lot of a church minutes before the murder, getting out of his girlfriend’s car and into a stolen white pickup truck. Investigators say Poe went searching for Washington. Poe found Washington walking along Indian Head Headway in Maryland, but lost sight of him.

After turning the car around, Poe located Washington again at the bus stop mentioned earlier, where he shot and killed him. Poe returned to the church after the shooting, abandoning the white pickup in the parking lot and getting back inside his girlfriend’s car.

Investigators do not mention Poe having any sort of relationship with Washington, so it is unknown if the two knew one another. Poe’s 45 year sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.
