WASHINGTON — An investigation is underway in Southwest, D.C. after a double stabbing shut down a Metro station and grocery store on Monday.
Multiple witnesses say the incident started inside a Safeway, and that one of the two men that was injured was a security guard who works at the store.
Police say both men are expected to recover, and one man is in custody.
The Safeway has since reopened as well as the Waterfront Metro station.
Witnesses say the scuffle between the security guard and the other man started first inside the grocery store and then continued to the Waterfront Metro station escalators.
Metro trains were bypassing this station, and a shuttle was provided for riders. The investigation has led to congestion in the area and a lot of shoppers have stopped here wondering if this was an attempted robbery, but police still have not told us what prompted the stabbing.
