WASHINGTON — A car crash involving several vehicles, including a DC Police cruiser, in Northwest D.C. left five people injured Monday afternoon.
Just before 1 p.m., DC Fire and EMS reported a crash with a car overturned near the busy intersection of 14th and U Streets NW.
"Checking for entrapment and injuries," the first responders posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Images and videos immediately started circulating on social media, showing a police cruiser, a black SUV and a gray van all crashed into each other. The van was overturned with its front windshield completely smashed out. DC Fire said five people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, including a child. One man was taken in serious condition, while two women and another man were being treated for injuries considered non-life-threatening. The child, only identified as a "female pediatric" patient, was treated for minor injuries.
DC Fire and EMS also posted on X that the crash had been witnessed by a member of their team who assisted with patient care on the scene.
"Crash witnessed by FEMS senior staff & street calls unit, who immediately rendered aid," the post read.
Roads were closed for a few hours Monday afternoon while police cleared the scene, but everything has since reopened.
