EASTON, Md. — Over 10 people, including children, were taken to hospitals after a crash involving a school bus Monday morning in Easton, Maryland.
Troopers with the Maryland State Police responded to the area of MD 328, also known as Matthewstown Road, at Three Bridge Road, just before 8 a.m. after receiving a report of a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the vehicles involved, a Caroline County Public Schools bus and a Kia Sportage, were found at the location.
The driver of the bus, as well as nine children that were aboard, were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. The driver of the Kia was also taken to a hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is currently unknown.
The identities of the injured people in the crash are not known, this includes their ages, names, and what school the students were heading to.
Through an initial investigation, troopers say the Kia failed to stop at a stop sign, which resulted in them crashing into the side of the bus.
While investigating, all lanes on Route 328 at Three Branch Road were closed, with Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration officials helping to assist as commuters sought other routes.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
