Pedestrian hit, killed while trying to cross road in Prince George's County

Police say the identity of the person hit is not known.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A pedestrian is dead after they were hit by a driver in Prince George's County Monday morning. Police are still working to figure out exactly what happened. 

According to preliminary investigation, Prince George's County Public Information Officer Ron Snyder said the crash happened right around 7 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 202 north of Lottsford Road. Investigators say the pedestrian was struck while trying to cross the road. 

The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still working to identify the person killed. They say the driver of the striking vehicle stayed on scene. 

Snyder said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash. Northbound lanes of Route 202 were closed for the crash investigation, but have since reopened.

Prince George's County has the highest number of traffic fatalities in Maryland. Lawmakers are looking at ways to bring that number down through legislation.
