Police use tracking technology to arrest suspects connected to armed robbery and carjacking

According to the first victim, the robbery happened just before 4 p.m. The suspects followed the victim out of the metro station.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police have arrested a man and teen in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking.

According to the first victim, they were robbed just before 4 p.m. The suspects are accused of following the victim out of a metro station. Once they got to the 1700 block of 7th Street, Northwest, the guys allegedly held the victim up at gunpoint, stole their property, and then ran away.

Just two hours later, the same guys reportedly carjacked a couple along Market Place in Northeast near Costco. The victims were loading their car when police say the suspects approached them, brandished guns, and left in the victim's car.

Detectives were able to track the victims’ vehicle using the tracking technology that was installed in the vehicle, and with the quick assistance of MPD’s helicopter Falcon 1, officers were able to locate the vehicle and arrest one person.

Eric Vaughn, 20, was arrested on Monday and charged with Armed Robbery and Armed Carjacking. Less than 24 hours later, a 17-year-old was arrested and hit with the same charges.

Now, MPD encourages vehicle owners to utilize tracking technology in their vehicles or to use an AirTag or Tile to aid in the recovery of their vehicle if it is stolen.

These cases remain under investigation. Anyone with knowledge of the incident should take no action but to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
