WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after an Amazon delivery van was carjacked at gunpoint on Tuesday, leading officers on a chase across the city.
The Metropolitan Police Department was alerted by the Prince George's County Police Department’s Guardian helicopter that they were following a carjacked vehicle that was entering Washington, D.C. Guardian continued to follow the vehicle and advised MPD that it was being abandoned, and they witnessed the suspect commit an armed carjacking of an Amazon delivery van in the 1100 block of Bellevue Street, Southeast. During the carjacking, Guardian advised shots were fired, but no one appeared to be struck.
The vehicle was pursued by Prince George’s Helicopter, MPD’s Helicopter Falcon 1, along with MPD and Prince George Police’s units on the ground.
A person has since been taken into custody and the Amazon truck was recovered.
