WASHINGTON — A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after police say he helped carjack two people less than five hours apart in D.C.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the two carjackings happened on Friday, November 10.
The first victim told police they were in the 200 block of 9th Street NE when two people walked up to them shortly after 6:30 p.m. The pair demanded the victim's keys. When the victim handed the keys over, the pair took off in the victim's car.
Less than five hours later, another victim called police shortly after 11 p.m. to report a carjacking in the 600 block of L Street SE. The victim shared a similar story with the first carjacking victim, explaining that they were approached by three suspects who demanded the victim's keys. Once the thieves had the keys, however, they could not get the car to start and proceeded to run away instead.
One of the accused carjackers, a 15-year-old boy, was taken into custody Sunday. He has since been charged with two counts of unarmed carjacking.
According to MPD Crime Stats, motor vehicle theft is up 98% when compared to the same time last year, as of Nov. 11.
