LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — There's a new plan being considered for students at Loudoun County Public Schools. This one would give them more days off.
Originally, the district proposed delaying school start times on 16 days throughout the school year so that teachers can have more training time. But community feedback was overwhelmingly negative, causing the school board to change course.
Now, LCPS is proposing closing school to students on four days next year. The days would be:
- Oct. 4, 2024
- Nov. 4, 2024
- Jan. 28, 2025
- June 16, 2025
In a letter to parents, the school district said those days were chosen because they are what's called "stand-alone days," which means they fall between weekends and holidays.
LCPS Superintendent Aaron Spence previously said the extra trainings for educators are the result of new standards that are being rolled out at the same time, covering multiple subjects.
The school board still needs to vote to approve the final plan.
