Former Potomac High School track coach sentenced to 21 years for rape

Warren Gray had a sexual relationship with a girl when she was 13, lasting four years.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A former high school track coach in Prince George's County will spend more than two decades behind bars for rape and other sexual offenses.

According to court documents, Warren Gray, 34 of Waldorf, was a coach with the New Wave Track Club. Starting in August 2017, prosecutors say Gray met, groomed and manipulated a young girl. He had a sexual relationship with the girl for four years, beginning when she was 13. The relationship lasted until she was 17 and continued after she had left the New Wave Track Club.

The assault was discovered when the girl's mother was using her laptop and discovered videos of her and Gray having sex.

Gray told investigators he did not know the girl was 13 and thought she was a track coach. He pleaded guilty in July of 2023 to second-degree rape, two sex offense charges and two child pornography charges.

He was sentenced Wednesday to 21 years in prison. The girl and her mother were present at the sentencing.

State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy said she was satisfied with the sentence and felt justice was served.

"Our office will continue to seek stiff and appropriate sentences for sexual predators and will spare no expense when it comes to resources for victims, especially our children,” Braveboy said.
