Police arrest teen for carjacking, hit-and-run with stolen vehicle in NW DC

Less than an hour after the carjacking, officers were called to investigate a hit-and-run involving the stolen car.

WASHINGTON — A teenager has been arrested in connection to an armed carjacking and hit-and-run crash in Northwest, D.C. on Tuesday.

At 9:06 a.m., officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to O Street, NW, for a report of a carjacking.

The victim told officers she was parking her car when the boy approached her. He reportedly pointed a gun at her and threatened to harm her if she did not get out of her car and surrender her keys. The victim complied and then the suspect drove away in her stolen Lexus. A witness in the area called 911 for help.

Less than an hour later, officers were called to the intersection of Rock Creek Church Road and Taylor Street, NW, for a hit-and-run crash. Police say officers in the area located and stopped the driver of the stolen Lexus in the 200 block of Upshur Street. A gun was recovered at the scene.

Detectives say the driver was identified as the suspect in the carjacking. The 16-year-old boy, who will not be named, was arrested and charged with Armed Carjacking, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.

The investigation into this armed carjacking is active and ongoing.
