Police arrest 3 teens for armed carjacking while baby was still in the car

WASHINGTON — Three teens are now in custody for carjacking a vehicle with a baby still inside.

On Thursday, just after 6 p.m. officers responded to the 700 block of Lamont Street Northwest, for reports of an armed carjacking. The victim told officers that he was sitting in his car, when three teens approached him.

One came up on the driver's side and demanded that he exit the car. The second carjacker approached the vehicle and told the driver to get his child out of the car.

The victim was able to safely get his child out of the car, before the teens drove off in his car.

A video shared with WUSA9 shows three MPD officers chasing after the carjacked SUV. In the 21-second video, three officers try to catch up to the SUV, one manages to grab the passenger side door handle but is unable to get the door open. The car then picks up speed as the three officers run behind it.

Moments later, the MPD helicopter was over the stolen car. Chopper relayed the location of the car to members of the Robbery Suppression Unit.

Two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy were arrested and a firearm was recovered from the car. They're all being charged with Armed Carjacking.
