WASHINGTON — A 16-year-old boy is in custody of the Metropolitan Police Department for his alleged involvement in a series of carjackings across the District.
On Saturday, March 16, officers arrested the teenager after finding him in possession of a stolen key fob they say was taken during an armed carjacking.
Police say the car was stolen the day prior at 1:25 a.m. in the 1400 block of V Street, NW.
The teenager is charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Armed Carjacking.
Police say as a result of their investigation, the teen has been additionally charged for the following incidents:
- Unarmed Carjacking (Gun)
- On March 14 at 5:32 p.m. in the 2400 block of 17th Street, Southeast.
- Robbery Force and Violence
- On March 12, at 4:52 p.m. at the intersection of Eastern and Minnesota Avenues, Northeast.
- Unarmed Carjacking
- On March 12, at 2:02 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr., Avenue and Morris Road, Southeast.
- Unarmed Carjacking
- On March 7 at 9:35 p.m. in the 2500 block of Elvans Road, Southeast.
These cases remain under investigation. Anyone who has knowledge of these carjackings should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's text tip line at 50411.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
