NOKESVILLE, Va. — Police have opened an investigation in Prince William County after a car crashed into a tree following a shooting on Saturday.

Just after 10 p.m., officers responded to Flory Road in Nokesville to investigate a shooting. There, investigators learned the victim, a 28-year-old man, was driving in the area with two passengers when another car approached from behind. As the other car passed the first, shots were fired towards the victim's car, causing the man to leave the roadway and hit a tree. No one was shot and no one was seriously injured as a result of the crash.

The victim's car was struck numerous times by gunshots, according to police.

No other property damage was reported and the other car has yet to be found.

Police have not said how many shots were fired nor identified anyone involved in shooting at the victim's car. It is not clear if the victim and suspect knew each other or if the shooting was planned.

An investigation into this shooting and subsequent crash is active and ongoing.
