CAMP SPRINGS, Md. — A 70-year-old woman is in critical but stable condition after she was attacked inside a store in Camp Springs Wednesday night.
As of Thursday evening, Prince George's County Police have arrested the person they believe is responsible.
Officers were called to the 7100 block of Temple Hill Road, in the parking lot of a shopping center, for a report of an attack around 8:15 p.m. The crime was initially dispatched as a carjacking.
Once at the scene, officers found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds to her upper body. Initial investigation revealed that upon parking and getting out of her car, the woman was followed by the suspect into a store where the stabbing took place. Police say a man stabbed the woman, stole her keys, and took off in her car.
Her car was found a short distance away.
On Thursday afternoon, police hosted a news conference to ask for the public's help finding the man wanted in connection to the stabbing. An image from surveillance video was released. Investigators say the man and the woman were not known to each other before the attack. The woman told investigators that she had no prior interaction with the man before being stabbed.
When asked about this shooting during a new conference Thursday, Assistant Commander Captain Michael Nolle told WUSA9 "As a person it makes me feel awful, but as a Commander it makes me feel even worse. A citizen just going about her daily business and she was victimized in this way.”
