GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police have taken a 19-year-old man into custody in connection to multiple armed robberies that occurred in less than 24 hours in Maryland.
Sean Charles Wright IV has been arrested and charged with committing an armed carjacking and multiple armed robberies.
On Tuesday, June 4, just after 8 a.m., officers responded to Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda for an armed robbery.
Detectives say Wright IV walked up to a man inside his gray Toyota Sienna minivan, opened the door, and got into his passenger seat. He then lifted up his shirt, to show he had a gun, and demanded the man get out of his car, leaving the keys. The man did as he was told and Wright IV drove away in the stolen minivan.
An hour later, officers responded to Rollins Avenue for an armed robbery.
Investigators say Wright IV walked into a store, went behind the counter, and demanded an employee open the cash register. When that employee refused, Wright IV grabbed cash that was on the counter and drove away in the stolen minivan.
Nearly 10 minutes later, an officer noticed Wright IV running from a 7-Eleven located in the same shopping plaza. That officer watched as Wright IV got into the stolen minivan, and approached him from behind. When the officer demanded Wright IV get out of the car, Wright IV started running from the officer. After a short chase, police took Wright IV into custody.
Detectives later determined that Wright IV walked into a 7-Eleven store on Rockville Pike, reached over the counter, assaulted an employee, and demanded cash from the register. He left the store without any cash, and that is when he was spotted by an officer, leading to his arrest.
Wright IV is currently in custody faces several charges.
