Teen boy indicted for hours-long crime spree across DC in 2023

Zakyh Samuel was charged as an adult in a 16-count indictment.

WASHINGTON — A 16-year-old boy is being charged as an adult for a string of crimes across the District that all happened in a matter of hours last year. Zakyh Samuel was indicted May 30 by a grand jury on 16 counts that included armed carjacking, armed robbery, assault and gun offenses.

According to the government's evidence, Samuel and his accomplices used a stolen Jeep Cherokee to terrorize District residents from 1:30 a.m. to 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2023. Samuel and others flanked victims, waved guns and demanded money and property and then took off. The U.S. Attorney's Office for D.C. said that for each offense, DNA evidence and surveillance footage helped link Samuel to the crime spree.

Additional details were not immediately available.
