Virginia man dies after being shot in the stomach in Northwest DC

Police are searching for two men seen in a dark-colored Infiniti

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a shooting in Northwest D.C. late Sunday night. According to Metropolitan Police Department investigators, the man was found shot in the stomach and died a short time later.

MPD officers were called to the 800 block of Underwood Street Northwest in Takoma around 11:30 p.m. That's in the area of the Takoma Aquatic Center. When officers arrived, they found the man with a gunshot wound. He was found unconscious and was later pronounced dead. The man has not been identified by police.

Homicide detectives are now investigating. They are gathering evidence and hoping to speak with any potential witnesses. Police say they are looking for a dark-colored Infiniti with two men inside in connection to the shooting. No arrests have been made yet.

Police later identified the man killed as 28-year-old Kaan Demir of Springfield, Virginia.

This shooting was part of a violent weekend in the District, which included four people shot along Minnesota Avenue in Southeast. Also, early Monday morning, a man and a woman were found shot near RFK Stadium in Northeast. All of the shootings remain under investigation.
