'It hurts my heart' | Neighbors shaken after boy shot, killed in Bowie

Neighbors we spoke to say they were shocked by the violence as the homicide investigation continues.

BOWIE, Md. — A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in a Bowie neighborhood Monday night. Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting. On Tuesday, police identified the boy killed as Re'Sheed Reid.

Reid's family tells WUSA9 they are not ready to talk yet, but say they are heartbroken by the loss of their son. The shooting happened on Lake Overlook Drive in the Lake Arbor community. People who live there are still trying to wrap their minds around what happened.

"Something so close. It just never happens in this neighborhood," said neighbor Kobe Vanzego. "I've been here about 23 years. When I first heard it, it was just a shock."

Vanzego saw the crime scene on Monday.

"I saw the yellow tape, all the police cars and stuff like that, it was just like 'Wow. What's going on?'" Vanzego said.

Police say they found Reid laying on the ground with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Neighbor Anthony Underwood said hearing about the shooting was scary.

"I walk through here every day. Hearing that somebody just walked down on him and shot him is definitely scary. It hurts my heart that someone lost their son, brother, friend," Underwood said.

Detectives are actively working to learn the questions everyone has: Who did this, and why?

Underwood said he just moved to the area and was surprised by the violence.

"I moved here about six months ago, and I've never heard of anything going on around here as far as shootings or anybody getting robbed ... So hearing somebody got shot is alarming to me," he said.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. Tips can be submitted through Prince George's County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
