WASHINGTON — Emmanuel Sumo was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison on Friday, and his partner-in-crime, Quaysa Flumo, was sentenced to 19 years for a string of armed robberies from 2018.
Flumo and Sumo were a part of a trio that targeted gas stations, liquor stores, convenience stores, and restaurants throughout the entire month of January.
The three including, Enyinna Onyewu, were found guilty by a grand jury in March 2022. The robbers would wear masks and gloves to each robbery and carried a .45 caliber handgun. There were many instances when the robberies would turn physical and the trio would attack the store employees.
The robberies took place at all hours of the day. Witnesses to these crimes testified that the men would even put the gun up the employee's heads during the robberies. By February, the trio had committed 10 robberies.
Eventually, law enforcement caught up to them and they each fell like dominos. Onyewu was arrested in October 2020. A month later police arrested Sumo. Then finally, Flumo was arrested on April 27, 2021.
Onyemu was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison and 36 months of supervised probation in August.
