Police charge two teens as adults after man wounded, another teen dies in a NE DC shooting

Both teens were charged with first-degree murder while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony destruction of property, and five counts of robbery each.

WASHINGTON — A 16-year-old and 17-year-old are under arrest for their alleged involvement in a September homicide in Northeast D.C.

On Sept. 11, at 4:34 p.m., officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Washington Place, Northeast for the sound of gunshots. At the scene, officers found a teenager, later identified as 17-year-old Antonio Cunningham and a man who had been shot. Both were rushed to area hospitals for treatment, where Cunningham was eventually pronounced dead. The man was listed in critical but stable condition. 

A friend of Cunningham's family created a GoFundMe page on their behalf to help pay for funeral expenses. 

On Thursday, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, police arrested a 17-year-old and 16-year-old, both of Northeast, D.C., for their alleged involvement in the deadly Sept. 11 shooting. Both teens were charged as adults under Title 16 with first-degree murder while armed felony murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony destruction of property, and five counts of robbery.

WUSA9 will not be naming the teenagers even though they are being charged as adults. 

The investigation into this shooting is active and ongoing.
