Manassas Police: Man arrested for trying to kidnap young girl after impersonating a police officer

A 23-year-old man now faces several criminal charges in connection with the incident.

MANASSAS, Va. — The Manassas City Police Department (MCPD) has arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer and attempting to kidnap a girl Thursday morning.

Police say 23-year-old Jesus Enrique Ramirez Cabrera has been charged with abduction, robbery, impersonation of a police officer and petty larceny for the Sept. 5 incident. He is being held without bond at the Prince William Detention Center.

MCPD received a call at 8:39 a.m. Thursday about a young girl in distress near the intersection of Quarry Road and Zebedee Street. The girl told officers then that a man driving a red Jeep SUV — possibly a Patriot or Commander — approached her as she was walking to school in the 9400 block of Clover Hill Road. He reportedly told her he was a police officer and asked the girl to get in his car.

Police say the man then got out of the vehicle and grabbed the girl's arm before putting her into the front passenger seat and driving down Clover Hill Road. He allegedly drove her through Wellington Road and Fairview Avenue to Quarry Road. The girl reportedly got out of the car at that point.

Police identified Cabrera as a suspect during the investigation, and executed a search warrant on his home in the 10000 block of Makelys Way in Manassas on Friday. At this time, officers do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
