Maryland man sentenced to 50+ years in prison for a shooting that injured 5 people

A fight broke out outside the Sole D'Italia restaurant along Layhill Road. Michael Boyd Jr. showed up, flashed a gun and began pointing it before shooting 4 people.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A judge has sentenced a man to 55 years in prison for a shooting that left five people wounded in Silver Spring. 

Michael Boyd Jr. was sentenced to 90 years in prison for all but 55 years to serve on Wednesday for a shooting that took place in July 2023

On July 13, 2023, Montgomery County Police were called to the Layhill Shopping Center just after midnight for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found four people shot and one person injured by bullet fragments. A preliminary investigation showed a fight outside the Sole D'Italia restaurant along Layhill Road. Boyd Jr. showed up, flashed a gun, and began pointing it at people before shooting four people, including himself. 

In April, a jury found Boyd Jr. guilty of first-degree assault and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
