WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old D.C. man is facing several charges after pleading guilty to his involvement in a crime spree in August of last year.

Montello Washington plead guilty on Friday to one count of carjacking, one count of armed robbery, and two counts of possession of a gun while committing a crime. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 25.

Authorities say carjacking carries a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison and possession of a gun during a violent crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.

During his plea hearing, Washington admitted that just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2023, his first victim arrived at the courtyard of an apartment complex on 9th Street in Northwest after his work shift via Uber. When the man got out of the rideshare,  Washington and another man got out of their car and approached him. Washington then pulled out a gun, with a red laser, and pointed it at the victim, telling him it was a robbery. The victim then handed over his phone, wallet, and keys.

On the same day, around 2:20 a.m., another victim parked his car on Missouri Avenue. The victim was closing his door when another car stopped next to him. This is when, Washington got out, pulled a gun, and demanded the victim's keys and phone. The victim gave Washington his car keys but refused to give up his phone. Washington then got into the victim's car and drove away.

The crime spree is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department.
