DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — A man is facing murder charges after a teenage girl was hit by a stray bullet and killed while inside an apartment in District Heights in May.
According to the Prince George's County Police Department, 19-year-old Chance Waters is accused of murdering 14-year-old Khamya Ferrell.
The shooting happened shortly before 2 p.m. on May 31.
When officers arrived in the 6600 block of Atwood St. they found Khamya and a woman inside an apartment, both had been shot. A third victim, identified as a man, was found suffering outside.
All three victims were taken to an area hospital. While the two adult victims survived, Khamya was pronounced dead five days later.
Police do not believe Khamya was the intended target of the shooting. She was reportedly hit by a stray bullet as the suspects targeted another group of people due to an ongoing feud.
Investigators later identified Waters as one of four suspects connected to the deadly shooting. He has since been arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder. He is currently in custody as detectives work to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
