WASHINGTON — Homicide detectives in D.C. announced a man has been extradited and charged for a stabbing that killed a woman in Northwest D.C. last year. The man wanted for the stabbing was arrested in Indiana.
The deadly stabbing happened on Dec. 19, 2023, just before 3 a.m. Officers responded to the 1200 block of 11th Street Northwest for the report of a domestic disturbance. When officers got to the scene, they found the woman inside a house with stab wounds. She died on the scene.
Investigators later identified the woman as 31-year-old Reyna Garcia-Lopez. Police continued to search for the man responsible.
The next day, members of the Great Lake Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 54-year-old Alberto Valle-Carranza of Northwest D.C. in Michigan City, Indiana.
Valle-Carranza went through the extradition process and was brought back to D.C. to face charges related to the deadly stabbing. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, he was charged with second-degree murder while armed.
