WASHINGTON — Metropolitan Police Department officers are investigating a shooting in Northwest D.C. that has left a man in critical condition.
According to MPD, officers heard gunshots just after 11:45 a.m. while in the area of Kennedy Street and Illinois Avenue. They responded to the sound and found a man who had been shot in the 5400 block of Illinois Avenue.
The man was taken to an area hospital for help in a private vehicle. He later died at the hospital.
The victim has since been identified as 27-year-old Jihad Darden, of Northwest, D.C.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate exactly what led to the shooting. They are looking for two suspects, one wearing a black jacket with fur around the hood, black jeans, and black and white shoes. They were last seen running northbound on Kennedy Street Northwest, according to social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
