COLUMBIA, Md. — A shooting at a Columbia apartment building has left one person dead and another suffering injuries late Sunday night.
Officers with the Howard County Police Department responded to Woodpark Lane, off of Murray Hill Road, around 9:25 p.m. after a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found two people who had been shot outside in the open stairwell of an apartment building.
Both shooting victims were taken to a local trauma center to be treated for their injuries. Police say 18-year-old Jeremiah Darden was pronounced dead overnight. The second person being treated, a 20-year-old man, has since been released. The injured were both from Columbia.
Police say they do not have suspect information yet for the deadly shooting, but they believe the shots were fired from an unknown vehicle. In addition, they say they are working to determine if the shooting might not have been random.
