Glenn Dale homeowners penalized after pool party turned violent

The pool party was publicized on social media. To get in, people had to pay an entrance fee.

GLENN DALE, Md. — Prince George's County Code Compliance has fined the owners of a Glenn Dale home following a pool party where one man was shot.

Notices posted on the home on Glenn Dale Road say the homeowners have been hit with a $1,000 fine following Wednesday night's shooting.

Prince George's County Police say a resident of the home hosted a pool party that was publicized on social media."Once the word gets out, people from near and far to be part of these events," Brian Fischer with the Prince George's County Police told reporters on Thursday as detectives were conducting their investigation.

Police say that in order to get into the pool party, people had to pay an entrance fee. Fischer says investigators are looking into the legality of the event. "One is you're charging admission, there are tax liabilities, there are permitting obligations to that. There are obligations about getting an alcohol license if you're serving alcohol at a pool party that you're hosting and charging admission for," he added.

Police did not answer whether a permit was issued for the pool party, telling reporters it was an ongoing investigation.

WUSA9 reached out to the people listed as the homeowners of the house where the pool party took place, but they did not respond to our inquiries. Police said the homeowners have been cooperative throughout the investigation.

At the same time, investigtors are still trying to determine what led to the shooting. Prince George's County Police say that around 7 p.m. Wednesday night officers found a man who had been shot in the Glenn Dale neighborhood. Investigators did not pinpoint the exact location where the shooting took place.

Neighbors and witnesses told WUSA9 that they heard an estimated 10 shots and saw the injured man covered in blood. On Thursday, police said the victim is expected to recover from his injuries but remains hospitalized.

No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.
