D.C., DC — A judge sentenced a 31-year-old man charged in a fatal drunk driving crash to eight years in prison and three years of supervised probation on Friday.
Reginald Johnson pleaded guilty in June to involuntary manslaughter and assault with a dangerous weapon. At the time of his arrest, he had been charged with murder, assault, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
On Jan. 15 just after 6 p.m., Johnson drove his Jeep eastbound into the intersection of Massachusetts Ave. and 15th St. in Northwest crashing into a into a Toyota Corolla as it was turning left across eastbound traffic lanes onto 15th St.
He hit and killed Carlos Enrique Christian of Northwest D.C. Five others were sent to the hospital in the crash.
Johnson was driving 61 miles per hour shortly before the crash, more than twice the 25 miles per hour speed limit in that area, according to evidence.
Police said Johnson had been seen drinking at Mission Bar, where he left less than an hour before the crash. His breath alcohol content at 9:20 p.m. was .1.
The original sentence was 12 years to serve, with four of those years years suspended plus the three years of probation following his release.
