WASHINGTON — Police are searching for the driver behind the wheel during a deadly hit-and-run crash in Southeast, D.C. on Wednesday.
The crash left a man dead and his wife injured.
Just after noon on Wednesday, June 12, a white Ford Taurus with dark tinted windows was seen heading eastbound on Alabama Avenue in Southeast and crossing Naylor Road. At the intersection, a 62-year-old man was walking his wife across the crosswalk when the driver struck them both. The driver then continued heading eastbound, dragging the man underneath the car and through a parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man killed has since been identified as 62-year-old Alton Kelly of Southeast. His wife was taken to an area hospital with help for her injuries. She is expected to be ok.
The car that hit the couple was later found by detectives. The driver has still not been located. The car can be seen in the photos below:
