Deadly hit-and-run crash under investigation in Montgomery Co.

Montgomery County Police are still searching for the driver in this case

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — A person is dead after they were hit by a driver while walking in Takoma Park early Monday morning. Police say the driver left the scene of the crash, and they are still searching for them. 

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash was first reported around 1:15 a.m. near the MegaMart on University Boulevard, near Anne Street. Investigators say the person was hit while walking in the area. 

Piringer said the person, who has not been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as critical and life-threatening. Later, police said the pedestrian had died of their injuries. Takoma Park Police, Montgomery County Police and the Maryland Department of Transportation were all at the crash scene early Monday.

Roads in the area were closed for the crash investigation, but reopened to traffic just before 5:30 a.m.

The crash investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone who may have additional information for investigators is urged to contact the Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

Additional details were not immediately available.
