Husband dead, wife injured in hit-and-run crash in Southeast DC; vehicle identified

Investigators have Alabama Avenue shut down between Naylor Road and 30th Street, Southeast.

WASHINGTON — A man was killed and a woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Southeast D.C. on Wednesday, DC Police said.

The crash happened just before 12:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast.

When first responders arrived in front of the Safeway grocery store, they found a woman who'd been hit by a car. She was taken to an area hospital, but her injuries weren't life-threatening.

At the same time, first responders got a call about a man down in the 2900 block of Denver Street – which is behind the Safeway store. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that a vehicle struck both people – who they said are a married couple – and the husband was dragged around the block to where he was found.
