MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for a shooting that left another man dead Monday morning.
The shooting happened near a swimming pool at the Thomas Choice Condos on Club House Road in Montgomery Village just after 11:30 a.m.
Witnesses told WUSA9 there was an argument before the shooting.
The victim, whose name and age haven't been released by officials, was found on the ground by officers. They tried to save his life but he died at the scene.
Shiera Goff of the Montgomery County Police Department said there was no threat to the public. She couldn't reveal what led up to the shooting outside the condos.
"This appears to be a situation between two people," Goff said. "I'd say it was an isolated incident. I wouldn't say that there would be a cause for alarm."
It's unclear how many gunshots were fired.
Homicide detectives worked to gather evidence and interview witnesses Monday afternoon. At around 12:15 p.m., investigators took the alleged shooter into custody. He has been identified as 20-year-old Oliver Alexis Perez Fierro.
Police executed a search warrant on the man's house where they say "items of evidentiary value" were recovered. They did not say exactly what was found.
Perez Fierro has been charged with first-degree murder and one count of use of a handgun in commission of a felony.
Neighbors say they've always felt safe in the community but worry what the crime means for their overall safety.
"It's very scary and as a mom, we have to be okay because this is a private property and an expensive place and we need to be safe," resident Kristen Deedemek told WUSA9.
Perez Fierro is currently awaiting a bond hearing and is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
