Mississippi Ave barricade ends without incident, police say

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police say a barricade on Mississippi Avenue Tuesday night ended without incident. 

Very little details have been released, here is what we know so far.

Police were called to the 2100 block of Mississippi Ave, SE just after 7:30 p.m., for reports of a man with a gun. 

When officers arrived, a physical altercation reportedly took place between a man and one of the officers. The officer suffered minor injuries, but was not taken to the hospital.

Following the altercation, the man barricaded himself inside of an apartment building. 

Road closures were temporarily put into place for the following streets:

  • 1800 – 2100 blocks of Mississippi Ave SE between 18th St & Southern Ave
  • 2000 – 2200 blocks of Southern Ave between 23rd St & Valley Terr SE.
  • 3600 block of 22nd St at Southern Ave SE 

Metro issued an alert for the 32 bus to begin temporarily detouring at Southern Ave and 23rd Street, resuming regular route at Southern Avenue Station. The investigation into this case remains ongoing.
