Naresh Bhatt was arrested and charged with concealing a dead body.

MANASSAS PARK, Va. — It has been a tumultuous few weeks for the loved ones of Mamta Kafle Bhatt. The 28-year-old mother of a 1-year-old girl has been missing under what police called "involuntary circumstances" since the end of July.

On Thursday, her husband, Naresh Bhatt was arrested and charged with concealing a dead body.

WUSA9 was at the emotional scene Thursday when Naresh Bhatt and his child were both taken from their home.

Several people told us they were not surprised the husband was taken into police custody and later charged with concealing a body. To them, he had been suspicious from the beginning of the saga.

On Thursday afternoon, the mayor and police chief held a "community meeting" but wouldn't allow media inside.

WUSA9 asked Mayor Jeanette Rishell why the media wasn't allowed inside. She responded "You would have to ask our chief.' He did not respond Thursday.

"He talked about the body has not been found so still searching but their forensics and stuff, working on it and the investigation is still open," said Prabha Bhattarai Duja, who was at the meeting.

WUSA9 asked if the chief told them if he believed Mamta was alive. She told WUSA9 he said "no."

WUSA9 initially tried to speak to Naresh Bhatt on August 12, but he said that he didn't want to speak with the media and that he was suffering.

"I don't want to do something wrong. I don't want to talk to the media, I don't want to be a bad person," he said.

On August 14, Naresh Bhatt agreed to an interview with WUSA9. He said he had last seen his wife on Wednesday, July 31 at their Manassas Park home.

"We ate on the evening of Wednesday. She was the one who cooked and do the kitchen stuff. We do not have any specific conversation. We do not have any argument or something like that," Naresh Bhatt explained.

WUSA9 asked him at the time what his message was to those who've expressed frustrations with the way he has handled her disappearance.

"I'm the one who is suffering. She is my baby's Mom. She is my wife. I'm the one suffering, so I don't- what I'm supposed to say," said Naresh Bhatt. He told WUSA9 that he's very worried about where she is.

"We are honoring her. We were not there to help her but at least honoring her that she is still in our mind," said Prabha Bhattarai Duja.
