CHEVY CHASE, Md. — A D.C. man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Friday for a shooting at a Chevy Chase restaurant in November 2022 that left two people wounded.
A jury found David Lee Brown III, 30, guilty on several charges in September, including attempted voluntary manslaughter, first-degree assault and use of a handgun.
Shortly after midnight on Nov. 14, 2022, Brown and a woman reportedly started having a verbal argument outside a Clyde's restaurant in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The woman worked at a nearby restaurant, Maggiano's Little Italy and her coworkers went out to Clyde's that night after their shift, according to charging documents.
As Brown and the woman continued to yell and argue, the woman's coworkers stepped in, and the altercation became physical. Brown slapped and shoved the woman. He also pistol-whipped a man and shot another outside the restaurant.
One of the woman's coworkers who saw the fight told police that Brown may have had a "thing" with the woman because Brown "didn't seem happy" she was hanging out with male coworkers outside of work, according to charging documents.
Brown was sentenced to 55 years (suspend all but 35 years to serve) by the Honorable John Maloney. He will also have five years of supervised probation upon release.
