WASHINGTON — Police are searching for whoever is responsible for carjacking a man in Northwest, D.C. and forcing him to take out cash from an ATM on Wednesday.
The victim told police that he was driving home from work and was on the phone with his wife when the suspect swerved in front of him, causing him to come to a stop.
He then lowered his driver-side window to ask why the suspect had destroyed his property when the suspect snatched his phone out of his hands. Police say at this point, the suspect struck the victim in the face causing injuries. The suspect then demanded that the victim get out of his car and sit on the passenger side. In fear of his life, the victim complied. The suspect got into the driver's seat of the car and robbed the man. The victim handed over his iPhone 15 Pro Max but told the carjacker that he did not have any cash on him.
This is when the suspect drove the victim to a nearby ATM. The victim took out an undisclosed amount of cash, using his debit card, and handed it over to his kidnapper.
Both the suspect and victim got back in the stolen car and drove to an unknown location. Investigators say this is when the suspect got out of the car and told the victim to drive off, which he complied with.
DC Fire and EMS responded to treat the man for his injuries. However, he denied medical attention on the scene.
The investigation into this carjacking and robbery is active and ongoing.
