'Empty the Shelters' event begins Friday

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is offering discounts on adoption fees for many of the animals.

ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. — Looking to add a furry friend to your family? Well, you're in luck! The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is joining efforts across the country to find homes for pets at more than 300 shelters across the country.

It's part of the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope adoption event.

Between December 1 and December 9, the AWLA is offering $50 adoption fees for adult dogs and cats who are 6 months older or older.

They're also offering 50% off adoption feeds for all small companion animals. That includes pets like rabbits, rats and guinea pigs.

However, according to the AWLA several of their dog adoption fees are free, thanks to generous donors.

Right now the shelter has 17 available dogs, which may not seem like a lot, but they're a small shelter.
