Neville the stray pigeon is looking for a home

Neville is a chill little guy who likes to nap and eat snacks.

ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. — There's a new fluffy resident at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, who's hoping to find a new home.

Neville is a pigeon, but not a wild pigeon. He's a domesticated pigeon. If adopting a pigeon is something you're interested in, he's up for adoption at the AWLA.

According to Palomacy, an organization that advocates for pigeons and doves, domestic pigeons actually make great pets.

Pigeons such as Kings, Fantails, Tumblers and Homers are smart, beautiful and gentle birds. They are masters of the leisure arts – napping, flirting, sunbathing and nest sitting. And they need homes! Domestic pigeons and doves cannot survive in the wild.

The AWLA says Neville was brought in as a stray, after someone saw him standing on a sidewalk and notices he had a band on his claw. They say the band on his claw, signifies that he was likely once someone's pet, but they don't know for sure.

They tell us Neville is "a pretty chill guy and that he's happy to spend most of his day napping or eating snacks".

According to Palomacy, humans have been breeding and using pigeons as meat and as messengers for thousands of years, and were the first domesticated bird.

If you think Neville would make a great addition to your family, you can put in an application with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
