ARLINGTON, Va. — If you've been looking to adopt or foster a pet, now is the purrfect time. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is urgently looking for residents to adopt or foster as kennels near capacity.
On Thursday, the nonprofit took to their Facebook to say that they only have two open dog kennels at the moment and the rest are full. They are asking for residents to step up and help these animals.
Here's how the shelter says you can help:
- FOSTER. People who can foster bigger dogs (>40lbs), even for just a weekend, are needed. Visit the shelter Thursday until 7 p.m. to learn more about fostering and take a dog home.
- ADOPT. There are a variety of furry friends waiting to find their forever home.
- SHARE. Spread the word about kennels nearing capacity.
- DONATE. Donations help fund the lifesaving care that the pets receive.
AWLA is also holding a calendar contest from Oct. 2 to Oct. 30, with a $40,000 fundraising goal. Participants can upload their pet's photos ($25 donation per photo entry) and friends and family can vote ($1 per vote, 5 minimum) online. Officials say the pet with the most votes wins bragging rights and will be featured on the calendar cover. Click here for more information on how to enter your pet.
