Stafford students travel to University of Virginia's medical school with focus on the future

Brooke Point High School students got to tour the research facilities, check out the lab and even conduct their own experiments.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — We are getting uplifted by some young brilliant minds in the commonwealth of Virginia and an impactful field trip that could lead to inspiring some local students to pursue a future in science.

Students from Stafford’s Brooke Point High School boarded a bus to invest in their future Wednesday.

The students headed to Charlottesville to visit the University of Virginia School of Medicine. They got to tour the research facilities, check out the lab and even conduct their own experiments.

The opportunity wasn't lost on the younger students. Students like high school freshman Jibril Iman says a trip like this could make a big impact on his future.

“I want to become a neurosurgeon in the future, and I'm looking, I'm going through this biomedical research to find out what this would mean for me to become a neurosurgeon, and why we need this,” Iman said.

The high school students also got to talk with UVA’s graduate students who are already conducting medical research.

As for Iman, he says he is inspired to put in the work now to reach his goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.
