Children's Inn patients celebrate Christmas in July with Montgomery Co. police | Get Uplifted

Santa Claus himself showed up to help the kids shop.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — We are still about 160 days away from Christmas, but Montgomery County Police couldn't wait that long. On Wednesday they called in Santa Claus himself to visit Gaithersburg for Christmas in July.

He shopped with about two dozen families. All of them are staying at the Children's Inn at the National Institute of Health to get treatment for some serious illnesses, like cancer.

One patient we talked to said the shopping trip was only her fifth time getting to leave the Children's Inn since April.

"It's just a good break from being in the Inn," said Madelynn Schow. "In the same place we've been for three months. It's great to see other people and feel normal. I haven't really felt normal in a couple of months.

Madelynn says she should get to go home in about five weeks. She says she's a big reader, so she stocked up on books. The families were also treated to dinner and winter activities to make this a true Christmas in July celebration.
