WESTMINSTER, Md. — A community is saying thank you to a giant fur baby with an even bigger heart.
Gryphon is 150 pounds of sweet devotion. He's a therapy dog, and for the past seven years, he has spread comfort and joy throughout Carroll Hospital in Westminster, Maryland.
But now, Gryphon's only job will be securing snacks, giving kisses and getting belly rubs. He is retiring!
Staff, and former patients, gathered for one final hug and one last pat on the head to wish Gryphon well.
"I was pretty much just laying in bed," said former patient Sherry Kendall. "I was in the hospital for six days. When I saw him, oh my gosh! My face lit up, I got up for the first time."
Gryphon is a Leonberger -- that's a cross between a Newfoundland and a St. Bernard -- so he is a big dog with a whole lot of love to give. We wish him the best in his retirement!
