A Baltimore culinary program is giving displaced chefs a chance to start over | Get Uplifted

Here's a closer look at the "Displaced Chefs Project."

BALTIMORE — In honor of the start of Black Restaurant Week, we are spotlighting a group of entrepreneurs in Baltimore. The group is teaming up to give chefs a second chance.

The Culinary Queens Collective is launching a series of pop-up shops for those who need a place to start over. It's part of the "Displaced Chefs Project." The program was started as a way to give chefs who may have lost their restaurants or businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic an opportunity to start over.

Five chefs are selected to host a pop-up shop inside the Bmore Made With Pride store in Baltimore at the end of every month. The women behind the Culinary Queens Collective say the program is to make sure local chefs feel supported.

"Whether they want to start another restaurant in the future or just show people that they're still here," said founder Natasha Brown-Wainwright.

"We're going to be there cheering them on the whole time, and what they gain is the confidence of knowing that 'hey, I can do this,'" said Nailah Queen.

If you're a displaced chef and want to learn more about the project, email all inquiries to natashabmoremade@gmail.com
