9-year-old builds popcorn empire in Virginia

The young CEO says he wants to teach other young people how to start their own businesses, and follow their dreams.

RICHMOND, Va. — A young entrepreneur in Virginia is helping us get uplifted!

Kai Walker is a 5th grader, and at just 9 years old, he's the founder and owner of KaiBear's Popcorn. He says he got the name from a nickname his grandma used to call him.

As for the business, Kai first started selling popcorn in Henrico County back in May of last year with the help of his parents. In just over a year, KaiBear's Popcorn has reached people locally, and nationwide. Kai even landed a contract with the University of Richmond, supplying popcorn for all of the university's sporting events.

"We have flavors like pizza-flavored popcorn, cinnamon bun, chocolate drizzle, birthday cake," Kai said.

Kai's father Art said the growth of the business has been impressive.

"We're definitely feeling proud of him. It's amazing to see how far he's come," he said.

Kai said he first started the business to earn money for one of his other loves: building Legos. Now he wants to teach other young people how to start their own businesses, and follow their dreams.
