High schoolers pack backpacks for foster children in Derek Jeter's Leaders program

The students are a part of Derek Jeter's Leaders program and are doing community service across the country.

WASHINGTON — Derek Jeter may be retired, but he’s not done making an impact.

High school students in the Jeter’s Leaders program traveled to D.C. this week for the 2024 Jeter's Leaders Social Change Project. The students are doing community service across the country.

Here in D.C., they’re packing backpacks for foster children. Each one is filled with pajamas, blankets, socks, books, and hygiene kits.

The foundation behind the program says foster children often don't have a bag of their own for their things. They’re hoping to fill that gap and set these young students up for success in the new school year.
