Virginia Girl Scouts help sew heart-shaped pillows for cancer patients | Get Uplifted

Troops from Prince William County helped the Woodbridge Women's Club show heart-shaped pillows for hospital patients.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A group of young women doing their part to spread joy and healing is helping us get uplifted.

Back in April we featured volunteers who have gathered to sew heart-shaped pillows for some hospital patients. For nearly a decade, volunteers from the Woodbridge Women's Club have gotten together to craft pillows for cancer and surgery patients at the Sentara Cancer Network Resource Center in Woodbridge.

Over the years, the volunteers have made more than 1,000 pillows for those who need them.

Now, local Girl Scout troops are hopping in the sewing circle. Earlier this month, Sentara welcomed Girl Scouts from Troop 2901 and Troop 18003 in Prince William County. The scouts worked side-by-side with the volunteers from the Woodbridge Women's Club to sew pillows and other comfort items for the hospital's cancer center.

The young ladies had some extra inspiration because one of their troop leaders is a breast cancer survivor who actually received one of the heart-shaped pillows during her cancer journey.
