Students find opportunities at nation's largest HBCU festival held in Virginia | Get Uplifted

Nearly 11,000 people attended the event.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. — Today we are getting uplifted by the nation's largest HBCU focused festival that just happens to be right in our own backyard

This weekend saw the 22nd Annual Alfred Street Baptist Church HBCU festival sponsored by Google and held at the St. James Sports Complex in Springfield, Virginia.

The number of college hopefuls was amazing. More than 10,850 total people attended both in person and virtual.

Of those attendees, 1,714 students were admitted to colleges or universities on the spot from the 70 historically black colleges and universities in attendance. The list goes on — 682 scholarships were offered, including full ride scholarships totalling $6,311,835 in scholarship money offered. Students hoping to join a world class HBCU band were offered music auditions on the spot as well.

There were also seminars aimed at getting high schoolers prepared for their next step with topics like preparing for the college process and how to apply for scholarships and financial aid. Attendees also learned about greek letter fraternities and sororities.

The day-long event is truly an inspiring and impactful one aimed at opening the door for all students to fulfill their dreams of higher education!
